So is it the exorbitant prices we endure or are we just mad for the hooch?

It's hard to tell, in pubs/bars I think our drink is cheaper than it is abroad, but until recently the supermarket prices were the other way round....given those are 2005 data maybe that's the reason?

Also, considering that a lot of the likes of French and Spanish drinkers drink with meals "table wine" which isn't expensive, compared to an Irish requirement of buying "decent" wine - there'll be a 10 euro difference there, anyway.

Cost is certainly a major factor in that survey, but we're no shrinking violets on the total amount of pure alcohol consumed per head tables. Aren't we only second to the Czechs?

It's funny. I've heard guys here saying that the Germans are second only to the Czechs. It feels like another European Championship of sorts <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

Prenderb, I find it much cheaper to drink in a bar here than when home in Ireland. I think the only place I've seen it more expensive was on a recent trip to Sweden. Zagreb was pretty cheap when I was there last week. At least for the local microbrewery stuff.
