The Grand Daddy of all beer mergers 17 years 11 months ago #1

Could this really happen?

I'd say it's highly possible. It's very much the sort of thing InBev do.

Is it likely that they'd let Diageo keep their licence to brew Bud in Ireland if the deal went through? I'd have thought they'd want to sideline Bud as much as possible, in favour of their global lager Stella. An Ireland without Bud taps is hard to imagine.

Very hard to imagine that scenario alright, but it could only be for the best unless Stella taps replace every Bud tap, and even then the greater flavour of Stella might kick start some drinkers to stray towards craft beer. This, or any number of a billion other permutations that might occur.

If Bud were taking over InBev I might anticipate such a thing, but it doesn't seem likely the other way round.
