House/apartment rental strategy? 18 years 2 weeks ago #1

Hi all!
So after spinning our wheels for the past couple of months while we try to secure housing while we're in Dublin, I thought I'd post here and hope for any suggestions for an appropriate strategy. Several Fulbright people have contacted my wife and said they lived temporarily in an apartment for a few weeks then moved and moved again after 3-4 months. Seems as if 6 month leases are a bit out of the norm. Moving multiple times with a 3 year old really doesn't sound like that much fun, so I was wondering if anyone knew of any good resources for finding a place to reside while we are there that I haven't been able to find. We are hoping for something South Dublin, maybe near Blackrock, somewhere near DART and UCD if that helps. Any suggestions of locations that would be good and resources for apartment hunting would be GREATLY appreciated! A bonus would be a place where I could brew!
Thanks so much!
John

There are lots of good pubs; you could just hang out and drink beer

www.daft.ie is the bible for renting.
stillorgan/blackrock/dun laoighre/sandymount/ballsbridge even dundrum would be good areas to try base yourself in terms of ease of access to both town and UCD.

Shouldn't be a problem getting a 6 month lease. Landlords like longer contracts.

I actually plan to hang out in the pubs and drink beer a lot, given I have no real committments

Kenmc, I'll look on that site you suggested as well as the areas. Thanks for the tips!

I think the problems the other Fulbrighters had was that landlords indeed like more than 6 month leases, hopefully we can find one!

and given the down turn in the property market, I'd suspect many who are trying to sell apartments would be happy to take a 6 month lease rather than let it lie idle waiting to sell.
Just a thought.
