I like how they blame our "liberal" alcohol laws. Compared to where? Iran?

Any fool can see that our alcohol control policy has been an unmitigated disaster and their solution is to patch it with more of the same crap that has failed in the past. Genius.

I also like the way they blame an increase in alcohol consumption on off-licences and then say that the increase in consumption is causing an increase in street violence. So are they saying that people are drinking at home and then going out and heading into town to have a scrap outside MacDonald's?

I would also like to mention that alcohol sales have not actually increased by any significant amount in the past five years.

And if the blow cost selling of cheap lager is causing an increase in consumption, how come beer sales have dropped every year since 1999?

But why let the facts get in the way of a good witch-hunt.

The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Health and Children ought to head off on a junket to Camden Street at 2am on a Saturday.

Repeat some thing often enough and it becomes the "truth", it's a bit reminiscent of Orwell's "Four legs good, two legs bad".

That's pretty much the policy that been in place for successive governments. There's always one more initiative to add another layer of bureaucracy and regulation and cost to prod and poke at the symptoms instead of looking at the underlying problem.

It's called "looking busy"...

This bit is easy to get! Pints drunk in the pub are "good" pints. The publicans sprinkle pixie dust around their cellars that magically turns their alcohol in to nice happy friendly alcohol that means that whoever drinks it will not be prone to the "bad" alcohol effect that come from drinking alcohol purchased from a garage, supermarket or off-licence. Such alcohol has an evil curse put on it by a wicked witch and causes you to leave your comfortable house late at night, get a taxi at much expense, go directly to outside the busiest pubs, start a fight, throw up in the street and get carted off to A&E. Or something equally as plausible as what the mouthpieces of the LVA or IVA come up with...

Another way to tell the difference between "good" alcohol and "bad" alcohol is to analyse where the profits are going. If they are going to a member of the LVA or IVA then it's "good" alcohol that should be allowed to be sold in abundance [i:20rjwsxf]but only by them[/i:20rjwsxf], if not then it's horrid nasty "bad" alcohol that should be restricted at all costs.
