There was some data from off-licences that people trade down their choice of lager in favour of price. Suggesting people cant really tell a differance

Doesn't surprise me. A lot of big breweries make several pale lagers in the one factory; I'd say it's standard practice to use the same base malts, hops and yeast as it'd work out cheaper.
