Buying booze in a northern supermarket feels like (I imagine) going to a sex shop. Bear in mind also that the cost of the building work will be added to the cost of the goods.

The new law will be called the Public Health (Alcohol) Act. There is only one other Public Health (x) Act on the books: this one[/url:22h2s1eu].

I'm not thinking of NI style cattle run, just the way Dunnes does it is good. A separate off license within the supermarket.

Ah here it's not that bad, you just go through a little barrier. I've no doubt it makes zero difference to alcohol sales though.
You should visit an “adult entertainment” shop next time you’re in Germany, they’re an experience. <!-- s:shock: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_eek.gif" alt=":shock:" title="Shocked" /><!-- s:shock: -->

The Intoxicating Liquor Act 2008 included a clause to have physical separation of alcohol from other goods. It was never enabled on the understanding that the shops would comply with a voluntary code to keep alcohol in a separate space, not displayed in with the other stuff, and most of them have done that. [i:3nxdfncm]Hopefully[/i:3nxdfncm] they're just talking about making this voluntary arrangement mandatory, but the cattle run button is there and doesn't even need to go to the Oireachtas.

Why does the government think that particular produce and I need to be kept apart; that I need to be prevented from accidentally wandering in. What does it say about the government's image of me and my fellow citizens that we need to be protected in this way, like we're already on the wagon? Any why isn't there a wee gateway into the Pepperami and the Rustlers?

Correct, I talking about VAT. If they hike the minimum level higher, they make more VAT. It's a great way for the government to get more tax without having to create a new tax.
