Have a look at the bollocks being touted here:

Yes, higher prices make them drink more.

I will be interested in seeing exactly how the "Health Warning" will be worded. Apart from the warning against drinking alcohol during pregnancy, will they bring up the old chestnut of "causes cancer" again?

Under the bailout isn't vat due to increase anyway up to 25% eventually?

This is all a bit mad - what has happened to individual responsibility for ones actions - its actually infuriating as someone who can go out have a couple of beers and go home to get punished because some people can't.

Will the EU allow this? Isn't it setting a minimum price and that would be against open and fair trade?

Will this minimum pricing also apply to alcohol sold through controlled channels - eg Pubs, and Offlicenses, or is it being specifically aimed at Retailers who are undercutting indie Off Licenses / Pubs?

The BBC report there seems to indicate its aimed more at retailers, and should affect the cost of the Cheap stuff more - No more 4 cans of Karpackie for a fiver so!! <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->
