Hooker in Belfast... 17 years 5 months ago #1

The Belfast Christmas market is due to start this week in the grounds of the City hall... Hilden have a bar (The Twisted Hop) and have the following beers available... A few Hookers will be drunk methinks...

COLLEGE GREEN BREWERY (Botanic Ave Belfast)
Mollys Chocolate Stout 4.2%
Belfast Blonde 4.3%

HILDEN BREWERY (Co. Antrim)
Scullions Irish Ale 4.6%

GALWAY HOOKER BREWERY (Roscommon)
Galway Hooker Irish Pale Ale 4.6%

PORTERHOUSE BREWERY (Dublin)
Hersbrucker Pilsner 5%

You can see the ad for this on CAMRA NI's site (www.camrani.org.uk/)... Click on "Diary"...

There are usually two more bars that have a good range of brews - in the past there has been (among others) SN Bigfoot, Aventinus, Samichlaus, Brewdog stuff, Paulaner, Hofbrau Munchen, Schlenkerla (Marzen and Weizen)....

I popped into this last night & have to say it was great to get a hooker! Apart from making a complete fool of myself asking for a pint of twisted hop ( but, in fairness tis a great name for a beer & one Ill be stealing!), I also had a pint of 'Silver' and Scullions - having had the Hooker first meant the Silver tasted very bland in comparison with the Scullion a notch above, bit still with an oxidised twang in there somewhere. Still, I hope to be back next week to try the chocolate stout on draft (I thought it was OK but not exceptional out of the bottle)

On draught it's OK, but not exceptional, IMO.
