A little bird told me that C&C have had an idea to shift more beer: rebadge it.
You see Tennents Lager has a serious image problem, so it's not really shifting, but there seems to a be a market for unusual beers, so the notion is to sell publicans Tennents Lager and/or Caledonia Smooth under the pubs own brand. The pub gets the beer for €100 a keg (compared to €140 for Heineken, etc.) and get to sell it as premium craft beer. [i:188tx8po]Kaachiiing![/i:188tx8po]
The person I was talking to was planning on selling it as Irish Craft Beer, because he was under the impression that it is brewed in Northern Ireland. I told him that I was fairly sure it's brewed in Scotland (confirmed[/url:188tx8po]) and he was kind of thrown for a loop as that put the kibosh on his plans.
I wonder how he got the impression it's Irish?
