Flying Dog Single Hop Imperial IPA 13 years 2 months ago #1

The Black Sheep currently has Flying Dog's Citra Imperial IPA on keg and it's amazing -- just the sort of thing I'd love to see more Irish breweries having a go at.

The barman said the Chinook one is up next, in a week or so.

The Brewdock hinted at it going on, well they hinted at a Flying doing imperial IPA going on but did not specify what.

It's the Nelson Sauvin one at Brew Dock. Cor!

The FD imperial range is tasty enough, but I think they're all a bit too hot on the booze front at 10%...it sort of baffles me that you'd try and showcase a single hop variety, then shove in a load of sweet malt and booze heat to knock the hop goodness out of kilter - would have loved it more if it was 8% I think.

Jesus, just read that back and realised that I'm complaining about the types of DIPA on tap in Ireland...shame on me! Where do I think I am? San Diego?! Thank God we have any at all!

Having tasted the Citra one I would agree that Jarl is the beer I'd direct someone to if I was showcasing Citra rather than this, but it's still a really nice beer, not overly hot or sweet. Conversely I thought the BrewDog IPA series, which were only 7.5% ABV, did a terrible job showcasing the hops because they were totally over-bittered.

Totally agree. I think the [i:24tq4wkl]"IPA Is Dead"[/i:24tq4wkl] series probably finished my love affair with BrewDog.
