Just tried this recently as my local offie has it.It was decent but lacking compared to new hoppier american IPAs.
I had an image of a traditional IPA in my mind but this certainly isnt it.
Am I missing the point? Is this a true example of the style?
I picked up a bottle from Molloy's over the weekend to see what all the hype was about. Surely this can't be an accurate reproduction of the great original. At €3.29 a bottle I was expecting something very special indeed but was quite disappointed. I found it bitter and syrupy but not in a good way.
I share Innominat's confusion, am I missing something?

I just recount multiple conversations and references to it, Durden Park, Pete Brown, David Line etc. talking about it as a really great beer, one of the great classics of the IPA style.
I'd say it's one of the best of that particular IPA style, but IPA is a [i:2gltc90s]very[/i:2gltc90s] broad term. White Shield has little in common with either Well's Eagle or Sierra Nevada Torpedo, for instance, though they're all IPAs.
