TOPIC:

new Duvel ? 18 years 5 months ago #1

from newsnow:
Belgian brewer Duvel has introduced a beer that can be aged like a wine for up to 20 years.

Duvel Triple Hop is a 9.5% abv limited-edition ale brewed using the same, but more, of the hops as the original Duvel beer.

Though exclusive to Sainsbury's, its high RRP of £12.99 is bound to create interest for those in the on-trade looking to offer premium beer as an alternative to wine.

Duvel UK general manager Nick Short said: "This is a special, limited-edition beer. The price reflects its complexity of flavour and rarity."

Ah; but then some know more than others.

Especially if they were invited by the brewery (Moortgat) that made the beer, for the official press release (Friday, 26th Oct.).
Duvel Tripel Hop is based upon the classical Duvel, but apart from the Saaz, and Styrian Goldings that go into the normal Duvel, Amarillo from the US are added too (hence the name). On top of that, the beer is dry-hopped with another helping of Styrian Goldings. To sustain all that extra hop, the malts are increased, so that the final product has 9.5 % ABV.

The beer is only available in a kind of pyramidal white cardboard gift-pack, and the official sales price is 12 Euro. At the brewery, the beer is sold out, I'm told! However, I found bottles at 10.95 Euro's already today in my local supermarket...

Oh, and the figure of 1500 bottles mentioned in Marks' blog, is probably the amount that went to the UK.
In reality, one brew has been produced, which means 22,000 75cl bottles.[/color:l30gbt08]

Amarillo in Duvel? Dry hopping? Have Duvel brewed something for hopheads?
