In the Sunday Indo mag yesterday (18.11.07), Ernie Whalley wrote a piece in his Wine column about beer. It's an interesting piece from a confirmed wine critic, and that has to be a good thing. The piece is introduced as follows:
"His contemporaries in the wine world may label him a defector, but sometimes, argues Ernie Whalley, there is nothing better than a good pint".
The substance of the article mainly concerns; the demise of Eurobeers, Gilbeys to import "stunning products from the Jacobsen Brewery" (a subsidiary of Carlsberg). He also talks about Porterhouse TSB in glowing terms.

Every little bit helps! It is still my hope that someday soon, I will be able to go into any good restaurant in Dublin, and be able to have a decent brew with my meal.

I saw the article and figured the tide must be turning if the wine buffs were writing about beer. Excellent news. He did say he could taste coriander in TSB which I thought a little strange, but hey, he's the one with the trained palate.
