Plenty of beer snobs who won't drink something because it's not from a micro.

If Diageo were to come out with a great tasting IPA would we not drink it? If O'Hara's expand through the craft ceiling will their beers taste like muck? While there is something to be said about how to define "craft" I thought the purpose of Beoir was support the breweries who brew good beer in Ireland but don't have the market budget. We're here to provide some early adopters and word-of-mouth. The revenue definition of craft is good enough for me, by the time a brewery breaks through it they probably don't need Beoir. Doesn't mean that we will instantly begin to thrash them.

It's pretty clear that the brewers in Diageo and other big concerns aren't authors, no matter how talented and creative they are, because of the diffuse decision making structures in large organisations. They don't get the final say and what determines the final form of the product is how the focus groups find it.

It's true that authorship is a criterion that might be hard to judge from the outside, but I don't think it's so easy to fake. You can't erase the institutional stages in the decision making process just by talking up the role of one or two people in that process. We don't always know what decision making structures exist in an organisation but we can be confident they get more complicated and less authorial the larger the organisation gets.

If it's simply an assumption based on the brewery size, is this any different from having output as a criterion?

Is it not fair to say that a craft brewer does not have economic interest at the foremost of there mind? Don't get me wrong if some of the breweries were not making money (at least to cover bills) they would not be making beer. When you look at Diageo they have profit at the foremost of beer making. SPA, when you consider it, is a fairly (I would think) save crack at the craft beer market. Again SPA it is nothing to radical and have found that again it is served cold (usually trick)
