Not Trying to be an A$$: What is "larger"? 13 years 11 months ago #1

I'm seeing "larger" on more and more beer bar menus as a beer category; is this just a misspelling / phonetic spelling of "lager" or is this word just spelled differently in Ireland?

What am I missing?

I honestly thought it was just a super common misspelling but I've seen it in 4 different places in the last 2 weeks so I'm curious if it's something more than that.

Is lager a bottom fermented beer that's put into a bottle that's bigger than normal? (Now, I'm trying to be an ass.)
; )

I blame text messaging for the general decline in standards.

A pub in Leixlip had a sign up outside FOOD BEEN SERVED. I went in and told him it should be spelled BEAN. And so it was but only for a day.

I've seen "Alistation pups for sale"

I believe its spelt "larger" (spelt lager anyone? MAF?) because thats the way some English people pronounce "lager".

Another one that I see written regularly is using "formally" instead of "formerly".

Would that not be "Food being served"?

Seriously, it's just people who can't spell. Or can't use simple grammar like the difference between; which & witch etc or more commonly; there, their, they're

Unless of course a Larger is just a bigger serving? Someone should insist on that if they order a larger. Expect a bigger serving than if they just order a lager.

Anyone using bad spelling or grammar in this thread is open to ridicule. Typos excepted.

Just like the typical Irishness of being unable to say the word "specific" and it comes out as "Pacific". Also the "th" becomes a "t" so many Irish say tree instead of three, I can let that one slide because three in Irish is [i:mtgcd0de]Trí [/i:mtgcd0de]and is pronounced [i:mtgcd0de]tree[/i:mtgcd0de].
