Kinsale - still making ale? 18 years 6 months ago #1

apologies for the rhyming title, but I just read on a UK beertickers site a piece about a guy last month trying to get a brewery tour at Kinsale,
from <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="www.scoopergen.co.uk/">www.scoopergen.co.uk/
"A quick note about Kinsale brewery; before I went an email was sent asking about tours, to which they said none were being done at present. We only found the lager around town and there was a "to let" sign on the brewery building although brewing kit could clearly still be seen inside… <<a local landlord>> told me that he thought "They're winding down, I think it’s made at Beamish now" which was a bit of a shock, so I emailed them when we got back asking what the position was. They seemed very coy and didn't answer my second email enquiring as to where the beer is now brewed, although they did admit that they were in the process of moving… so, decide what you think best!"

Anyone know the score?
cheers.

As I understand it from those in the know here, the lager was always made by Beamish. I've also heard that they're not interested in selling their stuff particularly widely. I'm surprised to hear it looks like they may be winding down: Iorwerth gives quite a different impression.

And, as usual with Irish craft brewing, the worst bit is that we have no hard facts about any of it.

[color=olive:2hhsihfl]Believe me, that really isn't the prerogative of [i:2hhsihfl]Irish [/i:2hhsihfl] craftbrewering.
Then again, the big brewers are twice as bad. Just read the info in Iorwerth Griffiths' book on the way the big brewers manufacture their beer.[/color:2hhsihfl]

I was told by another Irish brewer that Kinsale Lager is brewed by Beamish and that no brewing has been going on in Kinsale for a while. Some of their other bottled beers were still popping up in some outlets a few months back. I'm unsure if this was old stock or if it was also contract brewed.
