A couple of questions re Cigar City. A mate of mine is going to Fl soon and I was going to ask hin to shove a bottle or two in his case.
The Jai Alai IPA and the Imperial Stout appeal.


Has anyone tasted any of them?

Any good?

Are they widely available in Fl?

Jai Alai is great - fruity, solid malt backbone, plenty of bitterness but very much not a West Coast IPA with the usual pine-citrus hopping. Worth seeking out.

Haven't tried the stout.

I had a bottle of what I think was Jai Alai, at least it was an IPA but it was part of their 'humidor series' which means it was aged on cedar. It was lovely, it had a really caramel body, and it was heavier on late hops than bittering. I'm fairly sure it had a whack of amarillo at the end, at elast something very orangey. I'm not sure I got very much from the cedar aspect. Lovely beer anyway, I wrote about it here[/url:3j0xvby2].

Jai Alai is superb - tried it in Washington DC, went back to the pub the next day and it was all gone, i shed a tear <!-- s:cry: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_cry.gif" alt="" title="Crying or Very sad" /><!-- s:cry: -->

They impress me more than 99.99% of breweries on earth, although I've still not tried a single one of their beers. I LOVE their branding, their uniqueness, and that they're laser-focused on being a truly local product.

The cedar aging thing that they do is pretty unique and adopted from an area home brewer who started aging his beers on the "Spanish Cedar" (neither Spanish, nor Cedar, ironically) wood inserts that you get with some medium-end cigars. -I actually have a stack of cedar cigar inserts that I'm saving for just this purpose.

I had a bottle of the Humidor Series Jai Alai a couple of nights ago and it was absolutely delicious. I'd give an arm and a leg for some Zhukov's Final Push. Not my arm or my leg, probably, but definitely any others I could get hold of.
