Craft Beer in Tescos?? 14 years 1 week ago #1

Just went to my local Tesco in Cork to see if I could pick up a foreign Guinness, and BOOM, new world and craft beer section. Sierra Nevadas, Shipyards, seemingly every Porterhouse and a few others all for €1.50 each.(:o) Selection of English and Irish ales much much bigger and some Baltikas, Erdinger Urweisse and Schneider Weisse too. Really, it's an average selection for a craft beer shop, but for a Tesco I was blown away. Needless to say, at that price, all the Sierra Nevadas were gone. In fact, half of the shelf space in the section was taken up by 'sold out' stickers. Regardless, this is a feckin brilliant develepment in my eyes, or maybe it's old news. Who cares? Good beer!

UPDATE: I now realize this is in fact old news, and maybe not exactly great news. It does appear that they'll be trying to price independents out of the market, and I'm already determined to shop for my beer at Abbot's and Bradley's only. The temptation of having it so close to my house and so cheap is great though..

Best value i can get in my local tesco is oharas red at 1.79 - they have a few others from oharas range too plus hobgoblin, black sheep, old peculiar, some fullers stuff sometimes and a few others

Got a thing in the door that seemed to have a few listed which i hadnt seen in my local before.

Its tesco alright. They now have the porterhouse range for around €1.50 in Clarehall. A good few from Fullers, Whitewater Brewing , Schneider Weisse, O'Hara's, Shipyard Export and a few others. No Sierra Nevada so far but a full shelf of Smithwicks Pale Ale sitting there looking all unwanted. All these except the porterhouse are 5 for €10.
