I thought it would be a bit inconsiderate of me to continue hijacking Sullivans's Ginger Beer thread (best of luck with that by the way, I look forward tohaving a few ),so I decided to start a separate thread about Ginger Beer Plant (GBP).

Here are the resources mentioned so far.
Buy from:
[url:3b9q7lvh]http://www.retro-culture.com/[/url:3b9q7lvh] - (none curently in stock)
[url:3b9q7lvh]http://www.gingerbeerplant.net/[/url:3b9q7lvh] - (about €14 including delivery)

Yahoo Group:
[url:3b9q7lvh]http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GingerBeerPlant/[/url:3b9q7lvh] - seems a bit to technical and fussy for my liking

Beoir post on care and maintainance :

It arrived in the post today (about a week after ordering).
Looks like wallpaper paste.
Smells like bread dough.

Recovery brew:
1 liter boiled water
juice of half a lemon
100g raw sugar

Left to cool to room temperature.
Rinsed the GBP from its vacuum packed bag into a 1.5 liter jar.
Covered with cling film.

I'll let you know how it gets on.
Hopefully brewing traditional Ginger Beer by the weekend

If you at any point decide you want to get rid of some of the plant when it starts to outgrow the vessels, I'd be more than happy to take some of your excess plant off of you.

I also have some Kefir culture there, although I'm not sure if it's still alive at this stage as it's sat in a jar unfed in the fridge for quite a while, but I could get more of it easy enough.

I've an old brewing book with a recipe for a ginger beer plan, I must try it some time.
I remember I used to be fascinated by the one my grandfather had, spend hours watching it work.
