Pubs, Breweries, and Beers in Northamptonshire? 14 years 1 month ago #1

I'm heading to Northampton for a training class for the next week (leaving tonight), I've looked at the 2011 CAMRA Good Beer Guide and have plenty of ideas on pubs, but was looking for first-hand recommendations for pubs, breweries, and beers still.

I'm finding it difficult to look for specific beer and brewery recommendations from the CAMRA guide and it seems to me at least to be mainly a good reference for PUB recommendations vs. beer recommendations.

Has anyone spent any time here and have any recommendations -or does anyone know any of the breweries/beers from the greater Northamptonshire area?

P.S. I am already predicting a tongue-in-cheek Carlsberg recommendation so lets get that out of the way quickly.

Malt Shovel (maltshoveltavern.com/mst2011/) seems to be your local spot, and Great Oakley your local brewery. Or so the interweb tells me.

I can vouch for Oakham beers from nearby Cambridgeshire; they know how to go heavy with the hops (even one called "Citra") so try them if you see them.

Oakham Citra is gorgeous. That is all.
