I'm having my first bottle with a mate who has kindly offered to have my second bottle, but he does bring Chimay from 8-9 years ago for a bit of "comparrison" and we'll probably have a taste off a couple of other less prestigious trappist beers...

I can't wait but I'm busy the next two weekends so I'll just have to!

I'd had this before and ordered a brick straight off the bat from drinkstore. But I was surprised and delighted when my brother bought me another brick as a b'day present. I shared a bottle (ratebeer style ) with the brother, sisters and significant others without explaining the context/hype. I was very surprised by how positive the response was (e.g. why don't you make beer like that ) , from siblings who would usually rather a poke in the eye with the proverbial stick when it comes to "funny" beers.

so whats the consensus on these - open now or wait a bit longer?

I'd say if you have one or two to spare have a glug, Its a very nice beer and it for its strength its not chewy at all.

After that St Bernardus 12 and Rochefort 10 are fabulous beers, and if you hide the other stuff well enough... who knows.
