Bottle Conditioning 18 years 6 months ago #1

I've asked a few questions on these forums about why more beers aren't available cask conditioned. The main reason appears to be that cask conditioned beer doesn't stay fresh as long so demand has to be high to make it work. Fair enough. What about bottle conditioning though? Why don't more English ale brewers bottle condition their beers?

It's tricky to do well. There are issues with contamination and stability because the beer is not filtered but is expected to compete with filtered beer for shelf life ie. up to 12 months. Also, the bottles must be warm conditioned for a while which can cause storage problems.
