Trying to get Guinness drinkers to try anything else is a real nightmare. They are so conditioned to that 'Guinness' taste that anything else just isn't Guinness! Infuriating.

I always hope that the trend that what happens in the USA today happens in the UK (and Europe?) tomorrow will apply to the microbrewery revolution.

Another factor that seems to be gradually increasing the amount of shelf space and variety in the "premium beer" section of supermarkets in the UK is that these beers have a higher profit margin than the more competitive el cheapo megaswill. Hopefully this better availability will encourage demand. If people have different/new beers available to them then they may choose to try them. If they never see these beers then they are unlikely to go to any effort to investigate the unkwnown unless they are already "converted" like we are.

If asked, I tend to tell people that real ale tastes better and doesn't give me a hangover.
