It's clear we all love our beer. I've been accused of snobbery too, but it's something that can't be avoided if you turn your nose up at the beer that is on offer in the average pub. I see ethanol as a potent chemcial and generally won't imbibe any just for the hell of it. I would prefer not drink at all than stuff down a couple pints of something nasty. It's curious because some people just think I'm a piss head because I like beer so much, and appear on the surface to brew my own because it's so cheap. The irony is that I am more aware of the danger than them, and drink in a more responsible way than they do.

No no, I agree. I just don't want Wobbler to feel that he's being considered a psychopathic beer snob

I have to admit, I do sometimes feel sad when I see folk walking out of the supermarket with slabs of Bud though

I think Wobbler intended 'sickened to the core' to be taken as hyperbole, and also as this is a forum for beer geeks I don't think he would have offended anyone here.

Well I didn't mean it that way, and hope it didn't come across that way. By all means push, promote, be a beer snob. But at the end of the day people make their own choices, and have their own preferences, and I'd hate to see anyone getting so worked up over it.

I often wonder if the beer is incidental to those who buy crates of Bud and the like. I have often seen a few lads walking down the street carrying six packs of Miller and a packet of Pringles each, and realise they are propably going to have a great night, be it in front of the TV watching a match or a night of hard gaming. Sure the beer's there, but the type of beer is incidental to the enjoyment they are planning.

Yeah. I'm the psychopathic beer snob around here.

Actually, despite how passionate I can be about the subject, particularly in the company of your good selves, I don't actually care all that much about what other people drink. Sure, it's not difficult to get me to talk about beer and once I've started, it can be tough to get me to stop, but I don't actually criticize others for choosing yellow fizz. Not to their faces anyway :p

If I am out with friends, or colleagues, who are drinking something bland, I might ask if they have ever tried whatever I am drinking and maybe offer a taste, but that is about the limit of it.

What I am most bothered by is the availability of decent beer and it is then that problems can arise. If I go to a pub I want decent beer. I will not settle for bland muck, under any circumstances. Some people see me as unreasonable when I refuse to go to X pub because they only serve macro swill, but I see it as the same as asking a keen gourmet cook to go to McDonald's. I mean it's all food, right?
