Use of "run-off" in pubs 14 years 8 months ago #19

Ooop North in Manchester during 'ard times where there was Mild for sale ALL slops ( mild, bitter, lager, cider, guiness ) got emptied into the mild barrel and sent back as "gone off mild"

When the kegs became tamper proof and difficult to open the brewers allowed every 11 th keg free to compensate for ullage.

There used to be taps with "recovery" systems built right into them but they've been long taken off the market... anyone know what I'm talking about or what these things were called?

If we had such a think as our own "Good Beer Guide" or a "Cask Marque-like" program, this should be at the top of the list of things to get you kicked out of it! -Unless they just do it for the macro crap. -I heard this is a common and accepted practice for Smithwick's Pale Ale. <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

Ive seen taps in spain that have a stirer in the drip tray and a tube leading to a bucket. It would usually be some local weewee that would always be high, and on a single mounted swan neck type of tap

My friend politely enquired as to what was in the glass and the bar man said it is "run-off". My friend then asked how long it was there and the barman said it was there about 5 minutes. He added that this was craft beer and this is "standard package lads".

Barf...I wouldn't do this with my own craft beer and would not expect it when paying €5 plus for a pint (been a while since i have been in a pub, thank god).
