Brewdog, 3 Floyd's Collab: "Bitch Please" 14 years 11 months ago #1

Redmond's had the Brewdog+ 3 Floyd's Collaboration brew "Bitch Please" a few weeks ago and with 3 Floyd's being my "local" back home and Brewdog fulfilling my desire for crazy American craft beer styles most often while I'm here it was something I HAD to try.

It's a heavily hopped (bitterness and hop aroma and flavor) 12% ABV barley wine aged in Scottish Whiskey (Jura) barrels.

After drinking it I looked up more information about it online and they put shortbread, fudge, & candy floss in the kettle. It also uses some Laphroig peat-smoked malt and is hopped with Green Bullet, Nelson Sauvin, & Matoka.

It had a great American-style barley wine aroma (super hoppy) and backing sweetness and alcohol right away but then the harshness of the Laphroig malt comes in. I liked it but there's no way I could drink a second bottle for a LONG time. I think it could've been much better without the Laphroig peated malt and it really took away from everything else that was going on in there.

It honestly ended up a little "muddy" as there was just too much going on; using green bullet, nelson sauvin, and matoka was pretty much wasted as you really can't appreciate the flavors in this beer with the peated malt.

It's an exercise in excess and is a good case study on why sometimes less is more.

Both breweries put out some fantastic stuff and this was certainly interesting but a little moderation could've resulted in 3 different beers that would still be unique and probably each better than this beer... (It's painful to say, really.)

Thanks, interesting take on it. I have a bottle in my fridge here in Toronto (via the Drinkstore.ie, the carbon footprint must be massive)I haven't tried it yet but will let you know what I think!

Hi,

Had my bottle the other day, it was delicious. As for a food pairing - perhaps dessert? Or maybe with a ploughman's?
