I found some craft beer in Italy. My honeymoon didn't give me much opportunity to go hunting for craft beer spots, hunting for rugby showing pubs was more of a priority at the time, so I would have to experience the Roman craft beer scene serendipitously. After a week where my choices were fizzy yellow stuff, fizzy yellow stuff, fizzy yellow stuff and Guinness I was ecstatic when I saw a sign in Piazza Navona in Rome that said "Italian craft beer". I was less than ecstatic when I saw the price, €22 for a 750ml bottle, but it had to be done.

Reale from Birra del Borga in the Caffé Barocco, Piazza Navona for those who are visiting the city in the near future. They had a few more craft beers on the "wine list" too, at similar prices. Most of them seemed fizzy and yellow though, this was amber and hoppy. 6.4% I think, tasted a bit like Sierra Nevada Torpedo, and really hit the spot. The American couple sitting next to us looked on jealously, and I believe they also followed suit and order a bottle once they finished their lemonade.

I'm sure someone will chime in and tell me about a great bar around the corner with 12 Italian craft beers on tap and a barman who loves Leinster, but I was quite satisfied with my find.

Aren't the Italian craft beer bottles great? They've REALLY got premium packaging down.

But did the have the European Rugby Cup on the telly there?

Grrrr. Serendipity is more fun. Why would I seek out craft beer on the internet when I can just wander around like how our ancestors found it.

Plus, €12 a night for hotel wifi???? Last time I stay at a Mercure.
