Could some one like Redmond’s order in a lot for you

18 years 8 months ago #14

This may not work but...

Eurobeers supply a lot of the off licences with their 'World Beer' selections. They in turn buy some of their beers (Goose Island for example) from a UK importer called James Clay, who list the following

CANTILLON GUEUZE, FRANK BOON GUEUZE, MORT SUBITE GUEUZE, TIMMERMANS GUEUZE

I imagine you would need to get an off licence to order these for you.

I had Mort Subite recently and thought it was good.

How much are you thinking of buying? If it's a decent amount, you may be able to buy it straight from Belgium. You would have to pay the duty, unless you transport it yourself.

Not too much. I'll need to work it out but I reckon a case or two would probably cover it.

These guys do a great range of beers and a few brands of geuze including my favourite, Drie Fonteinen.

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="www.onlyfinebeer.co.uk/belgium/breweries/3+fonteinen/">www.onlyfinebeer.co.uk/belgium/b ... fonteinen/

I've contacted these guys before and a Gavin emailed me back and was most apologetic about the shipping costs to Ireland! £55 per 10kg. He offered a cheaper alternative involving him sending the beers from Germany! Yes, it's cheaper for him to send beer from Germany than it is from the UK!! He goes to Germany every few months and this is how he supplies all his US customers.

This is the mail he sent me:

"Hello,

Firstly I must apologise for this email. This is a blanket reply I am sending to all American clients who have expressed an interest in receiving beer.

As I may have mentioned it is extremely expensive to send beer from the UK but I am traveling to Germany shortly and I can take parcels with me.

Here is a table for the cost of sending beer to the US from Germany.

5 kgs = $70, 10 kgs = $86, 20 kgs = $118. These prices are for THE POSTAGE ONLY and the Dollar exchange rate will change due to currency fluctuation's.

The cost of the beer is additional. 10 kgs is approximately 9 x 500ml bottles. You will get slightly more bottles if you choose 33cl's and a few more if you choose 25cl's. Sending beer, with all the different sizes and the different types of packaging is not an exact science. I would mention that packing materials alone can add up to a kilo or 2.

There are some caveats you have to accept if I am to send the parcel.

1. There is a chance the beer will be confiscated as some US states do not allow alcohol in the post.
2. There is a chance US customs will confiscate your beer. It is unlikely you will be given the chance to pay import taxes.
3. The parcel could be stolen or broken.

If you wish to continue you must take full responsibility for the parcel. I can deal with courier companies in the UK but I can not speak German and I do not want to deal with the US postal system. Once it leaves Germany I will email you a tracking code to prove your parcel has left, which you can track and it will be wrapped substantially. IF IT DOES NOT ARRIVE (FOR ANY REASON) THEN I AM AFRAID YOU WILL STILL HAVE TO PAY FOR BOTH THE BEER AND THE DELIVERY. ie A REFUND IS NON NEGOTIABLE.
If you do not want to gamble the cost of the beer and delivery then please do not order. By ordering, you accept the above. It is not in my interest for this to fail as I have successfully sent beer as far as Japan. I like the kudos and the international contacts. If it works then you are likely to order again.

Please use the site to order and then email me stating which weight of beer you would like. Either 5 kgs, 10 kgs or 20 kgs of beer.

I have made this email a "worst case scenario", to try and put you off but I am sure, as history dictates, everything will be fine.

When I have a firm date for my trip to Germany I will email you.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours Gavin.

Onlyfinebeer."

Wobbler, if you do arrange an order of geuze through Eurobeers I'd be much obliged if you put me down for a case. Cantillon Geuze/Oude Geuze and Mort Subite are excellent, Boon are very good. I don't recommned Timmermans as they are lambic production cheap-skates.

Much obliged...
