BrewDog: Speedball 15 years 3 months ago #1

My favorite Barcelona pub owner/craft beer importer has gifted me an almost 2 year old bottle of BrewDog's "Speedball".

-The beer was required to be renamed to "Dogma" but apparently in October 2009 some bottles made it out of the door still labeled "Speedball".

It's a beer brewed with guarana, kola nuts (stimulants) and California poppy seeds (depressant (and hops)) and Scottish heather honey. -Now the Speedball name makes a bit more sense.

Light carbonation, amber, cloudy appearance, basically no head; smells like honey, I'd say it's either added in the fermenter or VERY late in the boil because there's a lot of delicate honey smells; very flavorful but pretty balanced with no one flavor sticking out too far.

-Actually, it tastes surprisingly similar to the 30 year old Westmalle Tripel I had for my birthday...

I hope whoever's importing BrewDog beers into Ireland gets a hold of some "Speedball"/"Dogma" as I'd definitely have it again.

Love this beer. Sainsbury's were doing it for £1 a bottle for a while.

What?!? We need a Sainsbury's in Dublin! I love their annual beer contest; its a great idea. -It would be great if Tesco Ireland would do something similar and carry a bunch of Irish Craft beers for a month or so and then have customers vote on the best and then each year the winner gets carried permanently. -I can dream, can't I?

Just goes to show how subjective taste is, my local offie has this quite regularly, i don't like it at all probably the only brewdog beer i have no time for.

You're right; there's a beer for everyone. I don't care for brew dog's light colored beers; they're salty and metallic to me.
