Barrelhead IPA? 15 years 3 months ago #1

Hi all,

On my visit home I was lucky to have spent a great evening in the B&C, in my opinion they are the best beer spot in Dublin if not, the country! I loved it.. it almost makes me want to move home

Anyhow whilst I was there the staff put on a cask of what they called 'Barrelhead IPA' (a search on here tells me that it may have just been Barrelhead Pale Ale) anyhow, no amount of web searching tells me anything solid about the brewery and beer (thebeernut told me a couple of things via twitter)

I really really liked it, I very much like super hoppy beers and this really did it for me.

Can anyone tell me a little about it?

What's the story with the brewery? Are they still operational?

What's the beers actual name?

Does anyone know the ABV and official style?

Sorry for all the questions, as some of you know I'm a ticker/rater and I'd love to enter it onto ratebeer.com but I can't without some of the above info..

Cheers all,

Al

Sorry I see there's a thread elsewhere viewtopic.php?f=1&t=5925 but I'd still like if someone could give me a dig out with the answers.

Barrelhead don't have a brewery, as yet, but in the past have rented brewery time to brew their beers. Last time we spoke that was still the plan, working towards their own brewery in the long term.

I'm sure others will have more detailed info.

Not much to add other than what I said, but just to have it in one place

This Pale Ale was brewed at the 'Well AFAIK, so I guess the casks now being served are ones that were lying around in Franciscan Well that they want rid of.

The first Barrelhead beer was called Bull Island and appeared about two years ago. The Pale Ale was the only other Barrelhead-branded beer I ever saw. They also brewed the house beers for TramCo in Rathmines and for Pifko on the quays in Dublin. The Pale Ale was also sold in Fionnbarra in Cork, as well as the festivals last year and TramCo.
