River Horse Brewery - Hopalotamus 15 years 4 months ago #1

I had a bottle of a beer called Hopalotamus from the River Horse brewery. Picked it up in Deveney's in Rathmines. Haven't seen it since. Deveney's have had their Winter Ale and recently, a highly hopped Hefe Weizen (The HefeRyzen).

Has anyone else seen this beer or had the pleasure? Lots of malt and lots of hops. Enough character for a series of novels...

I love this beer, one of my favorite americans. They had it in my local offy but haven't seen it in there for a while, I think I was the only person buying it. Theres also one called hop hazard, which is a bit paler, weaker and less hoppy then hopalotamus and a belgian type as well which I tried but can't remember much about.

I saw hop hazard in dundrum deveneys so they might get it in again.

I tried the Hopalatamus a couple months back (probably picked it up at Devney's, too) and quite liked it, but I didn't keep any tasting notes. -Loved the creative name, for sure.

The HefeRyzen sounds VERY interesting; I've never had rye in a wheat beer before and in a hefeweizen style it could be quite delicious.

I've never tried their Winter Ale although Winter/Christmas ales aren't a style I'm really that into... (I'd rather have a huge-bodied, hoppy barley wine to take off the winter chill, myself.)
