Vienna Dark Lager at the Porterhouse 15 years 5 months ago #7

I know the light in there isn't great, but I definitely reckon it's paler than usual. Quite hoppy too, in a lagery sort of way.

Definitely quite pale

Dissapointing... They advertise this thing like it's going to be DARK; lots of focus on the "DARK" aspect with dark clouds and a scary looking night sky and then it's just a regular, text-book Vienna Lager. (And not even a dark Vienna lager at that.)

-It is EVERY SO slightly darker than a typical modern Oktoberfest, with more hoppy kick, like a Vienna Lager is supposed to be; if you're expecting "dark lager" in the Czech dark lager vein (as their marketing hints) you may be disapointed.

Also has a pretty significant grainess during the first 2-4 sips that I didn't notice so much after that.

It's not a bad beer in any definition of the word; if they would've called it just "Vienna Lager" I would've been quite happy.

Tried this last night and really liked it. It seemed pretty dark to me (similar colour to an Irish red) although I've nothing to properly benchmark it against as it was my first dark lager.

I tend to find the PH seasonals (this, hop head and chocolate stout) a lot more interesting than their regular line up.

You know if they just called it Vienna Lager, some people would send it back because it doesn't look like lager.
