Pannepot Grand Reserva 15 years 5 months ago #1

Last week I opened up a bottle of the Pannepot Grand Reserva (2006 vintage; the little 33cl bottle); it's only 7.62€ a bottle at the Cracket Kettle) and, in my opinion it completely lives up to the hype and then some.

It's a Belgian Quad that was aged in Calvados barrels for 8 months after the normal Pannepot barrel aging, and the sour apple flavor is SO suprising and fantastic. I really didn't think that sour apple flavour and beer could go together but it's a really fantastic combination and just a super crazy complex beer. -I had tasting notes somewhere in some word doc but can't find them now...

If you ever spot it for anywhere near 8 Euros, pick it up; your tastebuds will thank you.

Now I'm plotting a way to import a Calvados barrel to brew my own version! lol! (Not really, I have no room for a barrel and I already brought it up with my wife and have very clearly been shot down on this one.)

-But if anyone wants to import a Calvados barrel and do a
group Calvados barrel-aged brew I'll help cover a share of the costs and help brew some beer to fill the barrel! (I just can't keep it at my house. if I want to remain married) <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

I'd love to age something in a barrell in the future, and would love something with a sour apple type flavour. Might start off with a Graff to begin with, but will keep the Calvados barrel idea in mind.

Like, I said, I'd contribute 10 gallons to the cause if anyone's up for it...

If you are looking for a barrel I can put you on to my source in the south of England.
