Award-winning McGrath's Irish Black 15 years 6 months ago #1

Congratulations to Blacckhawk, winner of the 2010 Champion Beer of Belfast for his new stout McGrath's Irish Black.

Is that one on the to-drink list ?

All I can remember is the Clotworthy Dobbin, Champion Beer of Britain and something from Clanconnell. What were the others?

It certainly is -- it's the something from Clanconnel.

Hilden have a new stout out too, there's All That Jazz from Whitewater and I've heard good things about Blue Monkey, whose BG Sips is on the list.

There's lots of great beer that's not on my to-drink list: Darkstar's Hophead and Espresso, Hobson's Mild (former CBoB), O'Hanlon's Port Stout, Skullsplitter, Belfast Black and Fraoch: all highly recommended.

Wow! Congratulations, Mark!

He really wasted no time grabbing that first award, it was just a few short months ago that the Red was coming out.

Great to see the new guys coming out swinging at the more established brands. Yea to Irish Craft Beer competition!

It was a good stout no doubt about it, i do wonder though about some of these choices at beer festivals though, CAMRA were banging on not so long ago about 'the year of the mild' suprise surprise lots of beer festivals picked a mild as their champion beer and that year the champion of champions was a mild.
This year they are pushing their locALE campaign i wouldn't be suprised to learn that a lot of beer festival champion beers happened to be locALE beers.
Maybe im too much of a cynic though <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt=":lol:" title="Laughing" /><!-- s:lol: -->

I didn't get around to trying this.

I think my favourite was Dark Star Hophead and I quite liked Titanic Steerage too.

Hobsons Mild was impressive for a 3.2% beer.

I tried Headless Dog out of curiosity. Better than the bottle but still nothing special.
