How to tell the age of a beer? 15 years 6 months ago #1

Does anyone know a good website where you can find the age of a beer based upon the type of beer and the expiration date on the bottle?

I've got a pretty old-looking bottle of Rochefort 10 (label is worn, flaking off, and there's surface rust on the outside of the cap), the "best before" date on the beer says 06/10/09 and that's basically what I have to go on.

The place I bought it said it was 6 years old, and I believe them, but how the heck do THEY figure this sort of thing out?
Does Rochefort always put the expiry date 6 years after the brew date or something or how do people figure this stuff out?
(I'd love to be able to dig through some old busty bottles of old strong beer on the back of a shelf in some off license and know how old they are somehow...)

Ok, this beer is easy; it's posted all over the internet: the date on the bottle is 5 years after the date that it was brewed.

BUT... How do you do this for other beers? Is there some definitive place to go to find out how to tell the age of a beer?
