I like spitfire and bishops finger but the last four or five specials are complete rubbish .

Shepherd's Neame Christmas Special @ Lidl 15 years 6 months ago #8

Evening people,
Just been to Lidl on Thomas Street in Dub and seen that they're stocking Shepherd's Neame festive special brew for e1.49 for a 500ml bottle.
It's a tasty enough copper/amber ale coming in at 4%, with a hint of a chestnutty finish to it - and with a name like Rudolph's Reward there's no excuse not to!
Happy drinking folks!

Welcome to the site, duelly. I've merged your thread with the previous one on the subject.

I couldn't resist replying when I happen to google this subject and saw the other postings.

I live in E.Sussex fairly near to the home of Sheperd Neame and can tell you that they have been living off of their reputation and their claim to be Britain's oldest brewery all my life (I'm 53) and probably a lot longer still...their products are dull as they come and rarely stocked in good local hostelry as few will drink them.

Might I suggest a good Xmas alternative? How about McEwan's Champion with, to me, a taste of heavy fruit pudding and at £1.30 from Tesco a rather good buy...with 7.3% alcohol though so be warned!

frankly I envy those of you with access to local quality breweries...the best I have would be Arundel Ales...and certainly not Sheperd Neame!

Welcome to the site, ammortiser. I wasn't a fan of McEwan's Champion at all: far too boozy. Loved Arundel's Old Knucker, though.
