Interesting German beers in Sweeney's 18 years 9 months ago #1

Sweeney's offie Glasnevin have a selection of interesting German beers for €3 per bottle.

Some of those available are Weistephaner Pils, Augustiner Weissbier, Edel Pils, Hacker-Pschorr Helles, Koenig Ludwig Dunkel, Einbecker Ur-Bock, Unertl Weissbier, Loewenbraeu Trimphator Doppelbock, and Eine Bayern Halbe.

Please note that this is not a complete list, though I do think I have most of them there.

Just thought I'd post and let people know what some of these beers are like.

Loewenbraeu Trimphator Doppelbock is a nice, middle of the road Doppelbock. It has not replaced Maximator in my affections, but it is well worth €3 a bottle.

Schinner Premium, or Edel Pils, as I have listed it above, is very nice indeed. Great example of a hoppy, flavourful German pils.

The star of the show, in my opinion is Unertl Weissbier. As dark as, or even darker than Schneider Weiss, it has a wonderful, unique flavour.

The dog of the show is Eine Bayern Halbe, which is piss. This is a demonstration of how NOT to brew a helles. I'd rather drink my own urine, so I poured most of the pint down the drain.

Sweeney's used to be my local offie when I lived in Drumcondra. It used to have an outstanding collection of English ale but had to sell a lot of them off cheap because they didn't seem to sell. Needless to say I swooped on them and bagged a load. Seems they might be ding the same thing with these German beers. They always had a good selection of German stuff as well. I particularly liked the Weltenberger pils.

Just back from a week in Germany on Sunday night during which I attended Adeptus's wedding in Mosbach on Friday.
While there I tried most of the beers that I came across (purely for research on behalf of this website ). Most of the beers I had were Weisse Beers and I have to say I was not overly impressed with any of then. I found them quiet bland.
One beer that I was very impressed with was a pint of König Ritterbock I had at the König Von Bayern in Wiesbaden. It’s a very tasty 9% doppelbock that I recommend to anyone who likes that style of beer.
While in Mosbach for 4 days I spent most of my evenings drinking König Ludwig Dunkel which reminded me of a porter with its roasted malt and caramel flavours.

Where exactly is Sweeney's? I know it's on Hart's Corner, but which one is that?

Directions from Porthouse North would be ideal
