Porterhouse Hersbrucker Oktoberfestbier 15 years 7 months ago #1

Tried this last night and quite enjoyed it. They've raised the ABV of normal Hersbrucker to 6.4% and dropped back on the bittering hops. It's still very hoppy -- much more so than a German oktoberfestbier -- but it's rather better balanced than normal Hersbrucker, IMO.

Oh, and Oliver said that he wants to set up free tutored tasting sessions every week in Porterhouse Central. If any of the commercial breweries want to take a slot get in touch with them.

That's a good idea. A lot of people don't want to "risk" trying unfamiliar beers in the pub in case they're left with a full pint of something they don't like but a lot of people would be enthusuastic about trying a structured tasting session.

There are quite a few nice beers available in this years Porterhouse Oktoberfest. Hersbrucker Oktoberfestbier is really nice and Schlenkerla Helles is interesting with just a hint of smoke but my favourite so far is Frankenheim Alt. It has a definite butterscotch flavour which I was not expecting but enjoyed immensely.

I really liked the Hersbrucker Oktoberfestbier. Definitely worth calling in to try if you are in the area.

I reckon it's a great idea. I'm very happy about trying new beers but my palate wouldn't be the most refined / informed, so a 'guided' tasting session might be very useful. I'd definitely be on for this if it's set up.

Had one of these after the meeting last night, and it was very nice, totally different than the bottled normal version which i'm not into at all. Had to go home then, just as well..
