Have to agree with you on the hobgoblin Dave, I dont worry about my lack of palate, I just like what I like and dont question it

My brother in law lives in the UK and his local has Hobgoblin on tap. I think it's a cracking beer particularly when drinking [i:2v0ta3wv]al fresco[/i:2v0ta3wv] of a summers evening.

His local's got a great selection of cask ales which it constantly changes even though it's in a tiny tiny village. Imagine a pub in a tiny village here updating it's tap selection....ever!! He usually has to listen to me prattling on (after a few) about the generally poor selection offered here of Miller, Carlsberg and Heineken (arrange in order of noin-choice). I was in a big pub in Wicklow recently that had the same selection of bottled beers as it had on draught! What's the point of that? Isn't your fridge a chance to expand your variety without taking on 80 litres of the stuff? Oh stop me before the tears start welling up...

When I said I'm not mad on Hobgoblin, I mean it is better than most Irish pub beers, but not my favourite bottled ale

Re: beer selection, I was out in Wexford town a few weeks ago in Whites Hotel at a gig. Poor selection, but then I spotted a bottle of Macardles (best of a bad lot)on the shelf. I was happy enough with that untill I went up for the 2nd one, they only had the one
This is why I enjoy the armchair and a fine selection of beers in my shed. Armchair is in the house, beer is in the shed, just to clarify

I do a lot of my drinking in the garage, and am thinking of getting some more comfortable furniture, i.e. an armchair, as the camping chair doesn't always cut it. Not sure what the wife will think!

You could suggest a new suite for the sitting room and then move old faithful to the shed

I agree that Hobgoblin is still better than any macro brew available in pubs, I just wouldn't choose it from a good off license.
