I'm so envious. When I was working in the US I really didn't want to be travelling and objected to being sent for even 2 weeks at a time, getting it reduced to one. Now if I was offered 2 weeks I'd ask any chance of 3 months and a V8 for transport.

Last place I worked in Connecticut was Stamford. Was in a fake Irish pub with dirt painted on the walls. The place was heaving. Nothing but macro stuff, incl Guinness on tap. But that was a while back.

I normally only come over once a year, so it's usually still a novelty. It's a bit more at the moment because of the project I am on. They wanted me back in another couple of weeks, but I had to say no. I've had a few chances to relocate here, but never fancied living here, and the wife fancies it even less, although she was born here and the kids are US citizens. Both our familes live close to us at home, and with two small kids it's great to have the family network around, plus our parents aren't getting any younger.

My aunt and uncle actually live in Stanford, and I bet they know that bar you are on about, as it actually sounds like one they described to me before. My cousins are in Milford and Easton, so normally stay with one of them, and so this weekend I will spin down to Milford. I somehow got a fancy soft top car, but haven't tried to take the top down yet. The roads are a joy to drive on. We normally have some drinks or a bbq at their house, but I might try to drag them to a pub if there is a decent non Irish one around. The people in work keep on reccomending their favourite Irish bar to me, and are a bit surpised when I end up going somewhere else.

Off to a redsox game tonight, so will probably pop into the boston beer works before hand. Not much interest in the game itself, but should have a bit of craic anyway!

The funny thing is there is a proper Irish American (or is it American Irish) bar there in Stamford and it was the woman that runs it that recommended the other one to us, as her son runs that one. Can't remember the name of her bar, but it's proper American Irish: long straight bar, cheque pattern black and white tiles on the floor and neon signs aplenty. Co-incidentally she was from the Navan Rd in Dublin where I had been living at the time. Nice spot, I would have much preferred to stay on there as even tho I wasn't into beer, the place was authentic and the people had real stories to tell.

Had an excellent night at the red sox game. Green Monsta IPA from Wachusett was on draft all over the stadium at Fenway, and it was a really good beer. I'd definitely reccomend it.

From the Wachusett website:

An All-American yeast teams up with Cascade, Amarillo and Centennial for a homerun of hops in every sip. Caramel 40, Caramel 80, Bondlander Munich, Rye and American two-row malts. A.B.V. 6.0% | 55 IBUs
