Brittany beer & cider 15 years 10 months ago #1

I will be visiting Brittany in early September, and hope to get to visit Brasserie de Bretagne in Tregunc. Has anyone tried any of their beers?
Also, is good cider widely available in the region?

I seem to recall cider being quite easy to get hold of, but it's years and years since I was there.

If your Irish is up to it, Raidió na Gaeltachta are doing a feature on Breton beer on the show which runs between 4 and 6 on Friday. There'll also be a bit on the Irish beer and brewing scene by Jen from Dungarvan Brewing.

You'll have no problem getting good cider in the supermarkets, it won't cost you an arm and a leg either. I tried a mixed six pack selection of BdB's beers a few years back. From what I remember they were hit and miss, but a brewery visit is always worth the trip isn't it? <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

The Breton Cider is certainly widely available, and very tasty it is too. There was even 4 types available in the small shop at the campsite! Prices in the region of €1.70 to €3.50 for 75ml bottles in the supermarkets, with most around €2.60
Didn't get to the Brasserie de Bretagne brewery, but sampled their beers (six packs from supermarket and in local restaurants). Thought most of them were quite decent beers - Britt Blonde, Dremmwel Blonde, Dremmwel Dorée, Gwiniz Du and really liked both Britt and Dremmwel Rousse. Have to say the Britt Blanche was absolutely dismal though.
