Don't forget to check out the sites that Mr. Chiodi linked to!

This site has a map of craft beer places with a load of them around Milan: www.microbirrifici.org/beer_italy_maps.aspx

I'm heading over there next week and the week after for work. Will be based just north of the city, and won't get a lot of free time, but I'm sure we will end up in the city centre some evening.[/quote:2f1twjwj]
Hi MAF,

yes, Lambrate is truly the best beer place in Milan downtown.
By the way, if you want to try more draught italian craft beers, there's a new bar on Alzaia Naviglio Grande (near Porta Genova station), it's called BQ, it has 12 or more taps (and the same number of seats!) and all of them are italian craft beers. It's open for lunch as well.

But if you're staying north of Milan you really can't miss Birrificio Italiano brewpub in Lurago Marinone (Como province). It's definitely one of the best breweries in Italy and brews a world class pilsner, Tipopils.

If you want, you can email me or DM me on twitter (@mrchiodi) and we may have a pint toghether!

Anyways, I'm off to Sicily shortly and will be in Trapani, Catania, Noto, Acireala, Taormina, Salina and Cefalu. I've already checked out the microbirrifici site which has given me some options, but are there specific Sicilian craft beers I should be looking out for?

Any suggestions? Of course any advice from all Beoiristas is welcome.[/quote:4szxelce]

Hi,

unfortunately Sicily is not the best place in Italy to find craft beer, and since I live in the opposite part of the country (I'm much more close to Berlin or Amsterdam than to Catania or Palermo! ) I can't give you a lot of advices.

The only brewer I can suggest you is named Yblon (www.yblon.it/) and is of a former very talented homebrewer, but I don't even know if it has already started brewing or not. :S

You can check the MOBI forum: http:www.movimentobirra.it/forum, under the section "Luoghi da consigliare", but it's in Italian only.

Bye!
Sergio

Made it to Lambrate eventually. Managed to drag a couple of work colleagues along, and between us we sampled everything on the (beer)menu. The Pilsner , APA and English Strong Ale were my favourites. (Adam, you were right about the Pilsner, superb!). The Smoked Stout didn't go down too well with one of the others (partly because it didn't have a thick creamy head ), but I liked it.
Had planned to get to another place in Bresso, but unfortunately work got in the way

Anyway, highly recommend Lambrate, great place

Mark,
you really didn't miss a lot not going in Bresso (Officina della Birra brewpub): it's like a big warehouse and beer is not that special. And last time I heard about it, it was allegedly closed because of mafia connections!

Bye,
Sergio
