Dos Equis Amber & Blue Moon in Dublin 15 years 11 months ago #1

Not that either is a [u:337g67ss]great[/u:337g67ss] beer (they're definitely not small craft breweries), but they are two beers that I haven't seen here before; a new Mexican restaurant ("Cortina's") has opened in Dundrum and is carrying both Blue Moon and Dos Equis Amber.

Dos Equis Amber is intersting because for a while there it was one of the only Vienna-styled Lagers being brewed in the world; it's one of those styles that looked like it might die out for a while. (In the late 1800s there was an influx of Austrian immigrants to Mexico.)

Honestly, I'm even MORE excited that Dublin has a proper sit down Mexican restaurant FINALLY than I am that they're carrying these beers.

Cafe Azteca around the corner from the Bull and Castle IS good, but they've only got like 4 tables and it's always been more of a lunch place to me.
The stand in the Epicurian Food hall on the north side is also pretty good, but again lunch and not dinner.

(And I won't even comment on Texas Jack's or that place in Temple Bar...)

Had mexican last night in belfast (chiquitos), poor, old el paso is better, why can they never have a mexican restaruant with some mexicans in the kitchen cooking it instead of some spotty local teenager.

Had a bottle of dos equis, bland bland and double bland.

I should've warned you against the regular Dos Equis... The Dos Equis Amber is the ONLY way to go and only if you like sweet, low hopped lager.

I also just had friend from Texas (who drinks a lot of Dos Equis) try the stuff in Dundrum and he said that it's quite different from what he would get back home (the stuff here is brewed in the UK and it would seem is a bit different). The Amber seemed ok to me, though...
