Stone releases RFP for European location 16 years 2 days ago #1

After announcing before Christmas that they were looking to brew in Europe, Stone have released a Request For Proposals[/url:2nz5kihr]for their site.

(The actual specs are pages 37-38.)

The blog posting is their typical patter and the RFP is mostly like a sales brochure, which I guess you'd need for anyone over here who didn't know them.

But it does say annual production of 25k - 50k hectoliters, and that they want to choose a location by October...

Interesting way to do things that. Generally someone does all that research themselves when they decide to open a business but it looks like they want other people to do all the research and then they can narrow it down at their leisure.

I doubt it will be in Ireland since they are running a business after all and setting up a brewery in Ireland is probably a lot harder and more expensive than almost anywhere else in Europe.

I was talking to some of the guys running the Danish micros and, basically, once the public health inspector has given your brewery (kitchen, shed, whatever) the once-over for hygiene, you can sell whatever comes out of it.

The UK doesn't have the bond hurdle we do. Makes me wonder where it came from. I'd be willing to bet some unscrupulous Irish brewery in the 20th century spoiled things for everyone else.

Is there, or was there ever a reason given for requiring a Bond?
