Popped into the drinkstore today for err a beer or two. 16 years 1 month ago #1

A fine selection of beers and ales they have there I have to say.
I got two of most except the lambics and purposely concentrated on Irish stuff I've not had before, exceptions being the lambics and the SN selection.
Sierra Nevadas at 4 for a tenner is quite good.
I'm really looking forward to the Gueuze and the Mollys chocolate stout.
It was an expensive trip, but hey ho, beer is imporant

It's looking like facebook have disabled hotlinking directly to their images without the frames
It's fairplay I suppose but not very forum friendly.

So far I've tried the SNPA - quite nice, lots of American hops.
Presently I'm drinking the Chapeau Gueuze which I am really really enjoying. It's not what I was expecting, almost like a sherry or a port, not half as sour as I expected a lambic to be, but in all a nice beer.

Notes on a few of the others I tried.

Mollys chocolate stout - Too much patent and not enough body, not impressed with this one at all. Saruman made an extract Chocolate stout a while back which was far superior to this, as was the one I made myself with Coopers kit, weyermanns LME and cocoa nibs.

Belfast black - Good stout, I like this one.

Belfast Lager - I dislike the use of a non noble hop variety in a lager, it feels like it should be an ale, just not right for my taste.

Hop Head - Not bad, possibly a little too hoppy for my taste, easy to taste the US hops in it, I made a beer at Xmas which was very similar. The wife actually drank this one.

Timothy Taylor Landlord - Nothing special, I have a best bitter there which I think is very similar to this.

So far the stand out beer has been the Gueuze, loved that one - I think the fact that it was close to it's best before date might have helped as it's matured out nicely.

I have to admit having tasted these I am getting more and more disenchanted with commercial varieties and actually am happier and happier with my own abilities as I am equalling or surpassing a lot of these with my own brews.

Agree but O'Hara's is still the top Irish stout IMO.

It's not great. I think it's too sweet.

I suspect you won't like that Dogfish IPA
