I review beers (mostly craft) on a website and am based in Canada (BC) We don't see any Irish craft brews over here (just the usual big exports Guinness, Smithwicks, Kilkenny) but would love some advice on the best ones to start looking for when I visit next.

Also, does anyone know if any of them are available in the UK where I have family and visit more often?

The newest of our bottled craft beer is stuff from dublin brewpub The Porterhouse, who also have a pub in Covent Garden, London, so you could try it there. I think they must export bottles to the US at least, judging by their label (it has stuff about returns in different states) <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="www.porterhousebrewco.com/beers.html">www.porterhousebrewco.com/beers.html

Carlow brewing company have O'Hara's stout , a red beer and a wheat beer too, and another ale called Leann Follain. You should be able to get those in the UK, and I'd be surprised if not from some US places too, maybe mail order? <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="www.carlowbrewing.com/">www.carlowbrewing.com/

One of the most popular craft beers is Galway Hooker, but they don't bottle yet, we only get it on draught so I don't know what their export status is, or whether you can get it in the UK or elsewhere. <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="www.galwayhooker.ie/site/warning/flash/">www.galwayhooker.ie/site/warning/flash/

The other two main micros in the country are Hilden and Whitewater, both based in northern Ireland. they bottle and I'm sure you can get them in the UK and probably elsewhere. <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="www.hildenbrewery.co.uk/">www.hildenbrewery.co.uk/ www.whitewaterbrewing.co.uk/">www.whitewaterbrewing.co.uk/

Surely there's a north american based mail order beer that you can get these from? terrible if not, but you should be able to pick most of them up in the UK.

I'll definately check those out when I'm on the other side of the pond. Sadly there are no mail order suppliers in my part of Canada, and no cross border alcohol deliveries from the US allowed! It's very strict here in British Columbia, as the Provincial Govt control almost all liquor business.

I'll have a look when I'm in Washington State next (close by Vancouver) as Seattle have a vibrant craft brewing scene and have many more imported beers than we get north of the border.

Love your blog by the way, I had a look and would like to add it to my blog roll if that's ok with you? I've only just started a blogroll the other day and love to find like minded folk writing about beer and food!

I know you said about cross border shipments, but Halftimebeverage.com have the O'Haras range, and its available in Vermont i remember seeing it there, just down the road from you NOT..
I think you could email the breweries maybe, then again isn't Craft beer = Craft beer for that very reason, thats its not mass produced and widely available..
Franciscan Well in Cork City is one of my favourite Irish Craft Brewers, but only draught.
