TOPIC:

Porterhouse to raise spirits too? 16 years 3 months ago #1

There's an ad up on UK professional craft-brewing society SIBA's website - it's from Porterhouse, looking for a new hands-on brewer.

Thought y'all might like to know, if you'd not heard?

But the other really interesting news to me is in a little PS at the end of the ad . . .
"Some knowledge of distillation would also be an advantage"

Call me Sherlock but it looks like they might be setting up a micro-distillery - a cracking idea.

More info from SIBA's site - tinyurl.com/porterhse

Yeah they flagged that a good while back both on radio possibly at our tour that they would set up a distillery. The first new one to be set up in a hell of a long time I believe.....but a new brewer..have they lost the old one..peter was it?

Ah well - I'd not heard mention of their plan to make spirits before, but as I say, a cracking idea.

Tyrells, UK maker of cracking crisps, now make vodka with all the ugly misshapen spuds from their land

& bizarrely someone has set up a gin micro-distillery in uber-beer-writer Michael Jackson's old house in London!

As to Porterhouse needing a new brewer, given the details in the ad & their expansion into bottling (& soon spirits?) I'd say they need an extra pair of hands, not a replacement.

there was an ad on an Irish jobs website from Porterhouse looking for a brewer with distilling experience during the week

I think they already have a distiller lined up, but I suppose you can't have too many. Not sure I'd fancy a job which involved working from two offices: one in Dublin and one in Dingle.
