I have been many times before but always drank in bars so had never noticed how much the difference was,

For example, a bottle of old speckled hen was £1.40, old perticular was 1.38 and all fullers were £1.23

when you compare that to the over taxed prices over here thats some saving[/quote:7ttnx1t2]

Really hit home to me when I was in Cardiff, in a pub just off the main shopping street and got 2 pints of handpumped for £3.60. For the both of them. Not each.

On a slightly related issue here[/url:2z94fpxf] is an interesting picture of what Americans spend their money on for the last 100 years.

alcohol seems to be fairly stable (except during prohibition)

I'm willing to bet the actualy spending on alcohol was considerably higher than the official 0%, during prohibition.

I was in cork for new year and an off license there (I mentioned it before) had fullers beer 4 for €10 No bargain by English prices but when I can get 1845 for €2.50 I consider it a bargain.

One thing to remember though is we are paid a lot more (for the most part) than our British counterparts so it is not clear cut that we are being ripped off.

There is a whole chain of events that leads to something being more expensive here than in the UK.

I have no problem with something being more expensive here to be honest as I can always nip over the border and take advantage of cheaper prices with my powerful in your face Euro and Irish buying power

Tesco sell London Pride for €1.88 a bottle. Fullers Honeydew is sold for a similar price too

yeah but they increased O'Haras from 2.49 per bottle to 2.68 with a yellow tag on it saying reduced from 2.78, i was very annoyed when I was seen it, still cheaper than the off licences tho
