I was in Liverpool for new years and couldnt get over how different prices of beer in off licences and tescos differ from dublin and the UK,

I have been many times before but always drank in bars so had never noticed how much the difference was,

For example, a bottle of old speckled hen was £1.40, old perticular was 1.38 and all fullers were £1.23

when you compare that to the over taxed prices over here thats some saving

While the duty and vat are indeed higher here, it's not enough to account for the price difference. It's not just our government with their hand in your pocket.

its a shame that standard ales in the uk are nearly classed a speciality beers here, its the guts of €20 for 5 bottles of nice ale here while in the ik its about £9 (€10)

The bottled versions of English ales are priced as speciality beers in the UK too. Don't look at what you can get macro fizz for in UK supermarkets. Just don't.

If like me you're prepared to slum it and drink these beers from cans you'll often get them for about £1 each. I don't bother with cross border shopping myself but I do sometimes place an order with friends who are going.

im happy drinkin the bottles, my family is from derry so I might start "visiting" again and pick up some on my travels,

Less that half the price than down here,

It will be nice to have a fully stocked fridge once every so often
