3F, Dark Lord Stout: Now or wait a year? 16 years 10 months ago #1

I managed to get my hands on a bottle of the 2009 vintage of 3 Floyds Dark Lord RIS while back home in Indiana. (I've got a relative who's on Nick Floyd's baseball team.)
Now, I'm wondering whether to drink it now while it's fresh, or whether to age it out a bit. (1 yr)

I've had both a pretty fresh Westvlettern 12 (pub across the street from the Monastary), and an at least 18 months old Westvlettern 12 (Amsterdam) and I personally liked the aged one about 10% better. -There was much more "fermented figs" flavor in the older one. In theory, a 13% ABV coffe RIS should age quite well, but I haven't tried one before and after aging so I'm not sure how it will age... (How does the actual character of the beer change over time?) From what I've been able to read on the Internets, the 2009 DL is sweeter than previous DLs, so I'm really tempted to let it age out for a year.

Anyone have any good cellaring advice on this one?

Thanks,
Adam

I doubt your Westvleteren 12 experience is relevant, though, as they're very different styles of beer.
